Code Yellow for winds, snowfalls as winter returns
The National Meteorology Administration (ANM) has issued on Thursday a Code Yellow warning for the coming days. The warning is in force as of Thursday at 14.00h until Saturday at 16.00h. The main phenomena are snowfalls with a new snow layer, temporary wind intensifications and steep fall in temperatures.
One day before, the ANM announced the winter will return as of this weekend, after warm days with temperatures that have reached up to 18 degrees Celsius. A cold wave will cover Romania, coming from Russia. The temperatures will drop by up to 20 degrees C.
On Saturday, snowfalls are expected, accompanied by blizzard and frost, with wind gusts. Most affected will be the regions of Moldavia, Muntenia, Banat and the mountainous ones. The first signs of cold will be felt as of Friday night and will last until Sunday evening. As of Monday the weather will improve until Wednesday, when a new wave of cold arrives, the same source informs.
Highs between 0 and 9 degrees C and lows during the night of -12 to -2 degrees Celsius, lower in eastern Transylvania of -20C.
In Bucharest, the weather will be colder as well. Temporary rain during the daytime, likely to turn into sleet and snow during the nighttime. Highest temperatures of 4-5 degrees C, lowest of -7 to -6 degrees C. Frosty weather in the morning.
Weather forecast in the next month
Temperatures above the average of this period will be registered during the week of February 18-25. Fewer precipitations, mainly in western regions.
The next week, of February 25-March 4 will also be warmer than the average, in most of the country, with few precipitations. The same trend continues during the week March 4-11, with precipitations close to the average of this month.
During the week March 11-18, temperatures will also be above the month’s average, with normal precipitations for this time of the year.
