Collection of 200-year-old coins found in a forest in Dâmbovița
Over 6,000 old coins dating back 200 years ago have been discovered by two treasure hunters in a forest in Mănești village in Dâmbovița. The treasure has been delivered to the History Museum in Târgoviște.
Overall, three pots with 6,665 coins have been tracked down. Experts say the coins are 250 to 200 years old.
The most valuable items are an Ottoman silver coin and some silver coins that were spread in Transylvania and Bukovina until the end of the 19th century.
Although its financial value is not so high, the treasure has an important historical value, with specialists saying it dates back to the period of the Russian-Turkish wars.
After restoration, the coins will be on display at the History Museum in Târgoviște, next to other items of the museum’s numismatic collection.
