Collision between two buses on Budapest Airport, passengers from a flight from Bucharest, involved in accident. One Romanian hospitalized
Two people were seriously injured and several others suffered minor injuries following a collision on Sunday between two buses at Liszt Ferenc International Airport in Budapest, the MTI news agency reported, quoted by the Romanian media.
The incident took place at around 9.30h (10.30h Romania time) in the area of airport terminal 2B, the police informs.
The victims are of different nationalities and are all adults.
Nine people were transported to the hospital after the accident, most of them showing contusions, but several suffered fractures, a spokesman for the National Ambulance Service in Hungary said.
The victims were transported to the Merenyi Gusztav Hospital and the Budapest Emergency Institute for Accidents.
Mihály Hardy, an official at Budapest Airport, said two buses of the Hungarian company Malev were involved in the accident, carrying passengers from a flight from Bucharest, Origo.hu informs.
The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) said Sunday evening that a single Romanian citizen is hospitalized for specialized treatment.
“The Embassy of Romania in Budapest is paying attention to the accident at the international airport Liszt Ferenc in Budapest, which involved two minibuses transporting passengers, including Romanian citizens. The diplomatic mission has taken steps to local authorities to obtain additional information,” the MAE press release reads.
MAE also states that, according to the data obtained, the accident resulted in the slight injury of eight Romanian citizens, who received medical care on the site.
“Of these, two were taken to a nearby medical facility for further checks. At present, only one Romanian citizen is hospitalized for specialized treatment. The Romanian Embassy in Hungary monitors the situation, maintains contact with local authorities and hospital units, and is ready to provide consular assistance, depending on requests,” the statement reads.
