The fire at the Orastie Paints Factory was under control Wednesday morning, as fire-fighters fought with it during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, along with taking samples in order to assess the impact that thick smoke released into the atmosphere has had on the environment.

A man, aged 24, has suffered burns of 3rd sand 4th degrees on 8-% of his body and was taken to Timisoara hospital.

Orastie local officials have evacuated more than 370 people from five blocks of apartments, as well as 25 households in the neighbourhood.

“The fire is under control and the fire-fighters work for its final extinction, we are working on the environmental impact assessment, we are waiting for the results from the sampling, and the operation will continue,” Prefect of the Hunedoara County, Fabius Kiszely, has said Wednesday morning.

Also, inspectors of the Environmental Guard and of the Romanian Waters Company are at the site to assess the state of the watercourses.

During the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, more than 50 military firemen from Hunedoara County and crews arriving from Alba, Gorj, Sibiu and Timis counties, acted to limit the fire at the oil factory in Orastie.

The Hunedoara County Communication Centre informs that the fire-fighters acted for twelve hours using 12 special fire trucks to decrease the fire on 5,000 square metres to about 100 square metres.
