The Constitutional Court of Romania has rejected on Thursday the PNL referral on the invalidation of the MP mandate for Liviu Dragnea, former Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, CCR officials say.

The sources added that the referral has become inadmissible after Liviu Dragnea received the final sentence from the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court).

The liberals argued that Liviu Dragea had been previously sentenced for an electoral offense.

The ICCJ sentenced Liviu Dragnea on May 27 to 3 years and six months in jail, with execution, for instigation to abuse of office in the file of fictitious employments at DGASPC Teleorman. Currently, he is jailed at Rahova Penitentiary.
