Countrywide Storms: Fallen Trees, Halted Trains, Closed Ports Due to Strong Wind

The Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) informs that the most emergency calls were made in Bucharest, where 31 trees fell due to the strong wind. The maneuvers in the Black Sea ports have been suspended, it is also said in the press release sent by the DSU.

Amid the Code Orange and Yellow alerts for strong winds, in the interval 02.04.2024, 08.00 – 02.04.2024, 13.00, effects were recorded in 17 localities in 13 counties, Alba, Bihor, Botosani, Buzau, Cluj, Dambovita, Gorj, Hunedoara, Ilfov, Giurgu, Mures, Prahova, Suceava and Valcea, as well as in the municipality of Bucharest, where operative teams intervened/are intervening to clear 13 construction elements, 60 trees felled by the wind, 4 poles fell on the road, 3 houses, 1 annex and 16 cars were damaged.

At the same time, railway traffic was temporarily affected on highway 500 in Moara Nouă township in Prahova county due to fallen trees on the contact line.

Due to the strong wind, maneuvers in all Black Sea ports and crossings with ferry boats from Zimnicea/TR and Turnu Măgurele/TR to Bulgaria were suspended.

In terms of electricity supply, breakdowns were recorded in 7 localities in Harghita County, totaling approximately 1,531 unsupplied final consumers. At this moment, it intervenes to fix the faults.

The most emergency situations generated by the sustained intensification of the wind took place in the city of Bucharest where 31 trees fell, several construction elements were displaced from 6 apartment blocks, 1 billboard was destroyed, being damaged 12 cars.

Fortunately, the strong wind and storms made no victims, so far.
