Crown Princess Margareta celebrates her 67th birthday today, March 26 at the Peleș Castle in Sinaia, a day which coincides with the 135th anniversary of the proclamation of the Romanian Royalty.
The palace will host a concert performed by the Royal Camerata. Alexandra Hordoan is the mezzosoprano, while the repertoire includes classic pieces by Mozart, Puccini, Bizet and Holst.
The guests, among whom PM Dacian Cioloș and his wife Valerie and vice-premier Vasile Dincu and his wife Maria, will attend a reception in the Italian and Moor Salons.
Princess Margareta of Romania, now using the style Crown Princess Margareta of Romania, was born on March 26th, 1949 in Lausanne and is the eldest daughter of King Mihai I of Romania, and his wife, Queen Anne. The king named Margareta the heir presumptive to Romania’s abolished throne in 1997.
The princess was officially appointed the Custodian of the Crown after King Mihai’s withdrawal from the public life on March 2 due to the cancer diagnosis.
“I received a serious medical diagnosis in the past weeks… I am sure that my daughter Margareta will find the wisdom and force to represent me…I have asked the Royal Council to continue its mission and offer its advice to the Custodian of the Romanian Crown”, read the kings’ message.
The King has undergone a serious surgery recently, with the doctors giving an alarming diagnosis: “chronical leukemia” and “epidermoid carcinoma with metastasis“.
The former sovereign has been discharged 11 days ago, recovering at his private residence in Switzerland.
