Political consultant Dan Andronic, owner of the newspaper ‘Evenimentul Zilei’, has been indicted by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) for perjury and for favouring the perpetrator in the file on financing the election campaign in 2009. In the same file, last autumn was indicted Ioana Basescu (daughter of former president Traian Basescu) and Elena Udrea (former presidential adviser, former Minister of Tourism and Regional Development). Dan Andronic was heard by the DNA on Tuesday.
According to DNA, the suspect Andronic Dan – Catalin, during his testimony taken under oath, made inaccurate statements about the essential aspects of the case on which he was asked, aiming thereby to prevent/impair the criminal responsibility of certain persons indicted.
Specifically, Dan Andronic is accused by the anti-corruption prosecutors of “making false statements about the significance of the money collected by D.A. COMMUNICATION MEDIA SRL, to which he was associated, from the companies managed by the defendant Francesco Giovanni – Mario, trying to accredit the idea that the accused persons did not participate in committing the offense of which they were accused and that the amounts have nothing to do with the political consulting performed by the suspect during the campaign.”
Elena Udrea is prosecuted by DNA in the same file for five offenses of money laundering during the 2009 presidential campaign and for two offenses of incitement to bribe taking.
In the same file, the eldest daughter of President Traian Basescu, Ioana Basescu, is accused of instigation to abuse of office and to money laundering.
