The first information about the derailed freight train derailed in Hunedoara County in early April has surfaced. According to the forensic experts both drivers, who lost their lives in the accident, were under the influence of alcohol and the amount of alcohol consumed was considerable, reports.

The autopsy results have revealed that both the train driver and the locomotive mechanical aid allegedly consumed alcoholic beverages before or during the ride.

The engine driver consumed a small amount of alcohol, but in the case of the mechanical aid the values are considerably higher. Sources say the blood alcohol level was above 2/1000. It remains to be seen what are the exact values and under what conditions the investigation carried out in this case will be influenced by the results of the autopsy.

The prosecutors and the police have opened a criminal investigation file for manslaughter. The investigation should be extended to crimes against traffic safety on the railways. In parallel, an investigation of the Railway Investigation Agency and of the Hunedoara Labour Inspectorate is undergoing.

A freight train owned by a private operator got off rails on a viaduct near Petrosani, Hunedoara County Saturday afternoon. The 16-carriage train was heading to Petrosani-Subcetate, and while approaching the viaduct 14 carriages and the engine derailed after running out of brakes; six carriages and the engine landed in the ravine.

The two engine drivers, aged 51 and 67, respectively, were killed.
