The Bucharest District 1 City Hall has been the target of a cyber-attack and its operations are halted for the moment. All the computers are blocked following the attack on Thursday, Mayor Daniel Tudorache has said, according to antena3.ro.
The Mayor has informed the Local Council on Friday, adding that he has informed the competent institutions, i.e. the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) and the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI).
“Thursday afternoon, a cyber-attack took place against all the computers of District 1 City Hall, they have encrypted the data and asked us for bitcoins in order to unblock the situation. It is obvious they are hackers. The Directorate for investments, urbanism, all the computers are blocked; the specialists have started to work, I’ve informed DIICOT while the specialists are trying to repair the database. We might have lost the database,” Mayor Daniel Tudorache said for Antena 3 TV private broadcaster.
