District 1 mayor: waste sorters paid, garbage picked up

District 1 mayor of Bucharest, Clotilde Armand, has announced today that the municipality had paid the waste sorters directly so that Romprest sanitation company has started to pick up the garbage from the streets. According to Armand, 260 tons of garbage have been stored in just three hours.

“The District 1 city hall managed to pay the waste sorters directly this morning, despite the Romprest’s obstacles, and the garbage started to be collected. Over 260 tons of garbage has been stored in only three hours”, Clotilde Armand posted on Facebook.

The district 1 mayor reminded that Rompres sanitation operator had not paid the waste sorters, so they closed their gates and Rompres left the garbage on the streets, “although it is forbidden by law and by the assignment contract”.

“But what do you think? Romprest Service S.A. has fiercely opposed. But the municipality has found solutions (…) The District 1 City Hall has notified today Romprest, asking it to resume the sanitation services within 24 hours, otherwise the contract with this firm will be automatically terminated after the deadline expires”, the district mayor added.

Early this week, Clotilde Armand announced she will propose the termination of the contract with Romprest in the next meeting of the Local Council.

In the District 1 of the Capital city, the street sanitation invoices presented by Romprest in 2020 (except the services provided by third parties) mount to RON 165 million, without VAT, which means eight times higher than in Oradea, for instance. A comparative analysis presented by Armand shows that the cost of the street sanitation in the district 1 per square kilometer mount to RON 2.42 million, namely 14 times higher than in Oradea.
