Doctors, patients’ associations and foundations could be compelled to declare all sponsorships (such as donations or congress attendances) received from the pharmaceutical companies and drugs suppliers starting next year.

A draft order of the Health Ministry brings the drug market advertising under regulation for the first time in Romania. “It provides a better control of the money in the system. Advertising for any kind of medicine, practiced in any way, should comply with the standards and should include nothing insulting or deceitful information for the user. Now we shall know exactly where the money go,” the state secretary with the Health Ministry, Alina Tucmeanu told a public debate on the draft order on Tuesday.

The draft document also stipulates that no kind of sponsorship for the medical professionals should be related to a certain drug’s name and that the sponsorship actions should not involve any promotional direct or indirect messages for the drugs.
