Romania ranks first at the International Geography Olympiad (IGEO) 2023

Romanian Olympic students won first place among nations and 4 medals in the International Geography Olympiad (IGEO) 2023, held in the city of Bandung in Indonesia, the Ministry of Education announces in a post on Facebook. Two students are from Iași, one from Bucharest and one from Focșani, from state high schools.

The Olympiad took place on August 9, 10, 11 and 12. On Monday, August 14, the students are returning to their countries. Almost 180 students from 46 countries competed in the IGEO 2023.

Romania’s team consisted in:

  • Brădățeanu Radu Andrei from „Sf. Sava” National College in Bucharest – gold medal;
  • Hanganu Daniel Nicolae from the National College in Iași – gold medal;
  • Preda David Ștefan from Unirea National College in Focșani, gold medal;
  • Olariu Tudor Sebastian from „Costache Negruzzi” National College in Iași, silver medal.

The coordinators of the Romanian Olympic team were Fiscutean Mihaela Cornelia and Dorin Fiscutean from the Iași National College.

Romania also ranked first at the European Geography Olympiad in Serbia at the end of June. All students were from state high schools and half have achieved gold medals.
