Bucharest heat provider ELCEN assures that Romanian gas distributor Romgaz will not cease gas supplies to residents of the capital as of October 15 for the unpaid debt.
“ELCEN debts to Romgaz of RON 362 million, will be paid in installments over a period of two years,” Marcel Nicolaescu, General Manager of the heat provider, said on Tuesday in a press conference.
He estimates that by October 10 the company will sign the protocol with Romgaz.
“We guarantee with electricity supply contracts, electricity bonuses and, if necessary, ELCEN heritage assets,” Nicolaescu added.
ELCEN provides 90 percent of the thermal energy of Bucharest and is state controlled through the Ministry of Energy.
This comes after Medias-based company threatened on Monday that will cease gas supplies to Electrocentrale Bucharest (ELCEN) unless the heat provider presents a debt plan. The current contract between the companies expires on September 30.
