European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson visits the mobile humanitarian aid camp in the Siret Border Crossing area on Monday morning. More than 190 Ukrainian refugees are in the Siret camp on Monday morning.

“The most important message I want to convey is: thank you, Romania! 🇷🇴 It is very important for me to be in Romania in these extremely difficult times, in which we see how war reappears in Europe.
I have seen with my own eyes evidence of solidarity: Romanian citizens from all over the country, civil society and Romanian authorities welcome Ukrainian refugees who want to escape the path of war. The European Union 🇪🇺 is ready to offer support,” said European Commissioner Ylva Johansson, responsible for internal affairs.

Most of the 192 refugees do not have identity documents and are waiting for their situation to be clarified so that they can be transferred to accommodation centers in the country, said Chief Commissioner Eleodor Pârvu, director of the Asylum and Integration Directorate within the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI).

According to the same source, 191 refugees from Ukraine who entered through the Siret border crossing have so far applied for asylum in Romania.

The Siret mobile camp has started hosting citizens from Ukraine on Sunday morning, who will stay temporarily until other accommodation is identified. The mobile unit, which consists of 30 tents, has a rolling car kitchen, which can prepare food for the campers. The unit is also equipped with 30 air conditioning systems, three lighting systems, 201 folding beds, 201 sleeping bags and 30 sets of tables with benches.

Over 33,000 Ukraine refugees currently in Romania

More than 70,800 Ukrainian citizens entered Romania between February 24 and this morning, and more than 37,400 Ukrainian citizens left the country. “So there are currently over 33,000 Ukrainian citizens in Romania, of which 373 have applied for asylum,” Romanian Government’s spokesperson Dan Cărbunaru said on Monday.

The government spokesman also announced that more than 3,000 offers for food, products and accommodation from civil society had been collected on the Romania-Ukraine government support platform. “Today in an hour and a half a new transport will leave for Ukraine – medicines and other medical products that will go to the northern border of the country. During this day there will be a third transport to the northern border of the country,” Dan Cărbunaru said.
