Extreme heat and strong storms expected in Romania

On Monday, almost the entire country will be under Code Orange and Code Yellow warnings of heatwave and severe thermal discomfort, and the maximum temperature will rise to 38 degrees Celsius, meteorologists announce. ANM has also issued a Code Yellow warning of torrential rains and wind gusts targeting several counties.

Meteorologists have issued new heatwave warnings in most of the country and torrential rains in several counties, valid throughout today. According to ANM, between August 26, 6 p.m. and August 27, 10 a.m., there will be periods of atmospheric instability, which will be manifested by torrential showers, electrical discharges and wind gusts. Water quantities will be 15-25 l/sq m and insulated over 30-40 l/sq m.

According to the National Meteorological Administration (ANM), on Monday, there will be a Yellow Code for hot weather in the counties of central Transylvania, western Moldova, northern Oltenia and Muntenia and in continental Dobrogea.

High thermal discomfort, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The thermal maximums will fall between 34 and 36 degrees.

Also, an orange Code for heatwave and heightened thermal discomfort will affect the counties: Maramureş, Sălaj, Cluj, Alba, Hunedoara, Satu Mare, Bihor, Arad, Timiş, Caraş-Severin, Mehedinţi, Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Călăraşi , Ialomiţa, Brăila, Buzău, Ilfov, Galati, Vrancea, Vaslui, Iasi, Botoşani and Capitala.

In these areas, the maximum temperatures will be 36 – 38 degrees, and the minimum temperatures will generally be between 19 and 23 degrees and locally will characterize a tropical night.

According to meteorologists, on Tuesday, August 27, the heat wave will decrease, and a Code Yellow warning will be in effect in the north of Banat, the south of Crişana and Oltenia and in the southwest and center of Muntenia. ITU will reach the critical threshold of 80 units. Maximum temperatures will generally be 34 – 35 degrees.
