Two F 22 Raptor fighter planes have landed on Monday on the ‘Mihail Kogălniceanu’ Airport in Constanta County, part of the ‘Atlantic Resolve’ military drills.

The two fighters were to leave Romania later on Monday.

The two F 22 Raptor fighter planes were for the first time in Romania. They are 5th generation fighters, invisible on radar (stealth technology) and capable of air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

The military drills known as ‘Operation Atlantic Resolve’ show the US military commitment to collective security within NATO and with the countries of Eastern Europe in counterbalance to Russia after the conflict in Ukraine in 2014.

The US troops will bring more modern equipment to replace the current stocks and to use them in future military exercises with the countries participating to the ‘Operation Atlantic Resolve’, multinational exercises taking place in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary.
