After days of speculations that she would be infected with COVID-19 after attending a beach party, famous Romanian news anchor at PRO TV, Andreea Esca has come out revealing she had indeed contracted the virus, together with her husband and teenage son.

“Yes, I was sick with the coronavirus, both me, my husband and one of my children, but, thanks to God and to the extraordinary doctors we are fine and all three of us have tested negative today”, Andreea Esca told an interview to her colleagues from PRO TV.

The news anchor revealed that her husband’s condition was the most serious, as he was admitted in intensive care. All them had been hospitalized at Victor Babes Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Bucharest.

Well, here he is Alex (editor note: Alexandre Eram, her husband), a 50-year-old man, without any chronic disease, who doesn’t smoke, who does sport, who has a very ordered life, who has no excess, he was the one that made the most serious form of the disease”, Andreea said.

She recounted that her husband’s first symptoms were high fever who lasted for three days and gastroeneterological problems. Her symptoms were that she had lost her taste and smell and a mild throat discomfort.

“My husband’s body had a violent reaction in an extremely short time and he soon reached the intensive care unit where he stayed for many days, where he needed non-invasive mechanical ventilation. From a very strong and healthy man he could barely talk, and as long as could communicate, he used to tell me that he cannot endure anymore, that it’s awful, this is what hell looks like”, Andreea said.

She disclosed that her husband had undergone a treatment with blood plasma from the patients who recovered from COVID-19 and that his condition had indeed improved after that.

The news anchor has also responded to criticism that she had kept the illness secret, explaining that in those moments, no one could have the strength to grant interviews.

“I chose to talk now when I got home. I think every person has his/her limits. I am just a human being, who makes mistakes, who can get hurt (…) I am not God, I am not a robot. And probably that was my limit. I considered that in such circumstances, the priority is to take care of my family’s health. It’s no secret, no mystery, it’s no shame, it’s just I was not able to make statements at that time (…) in a moment when I was very panicked (…) This was the limit of my decency. I am very extrovert, everybody knows that, I expose a lot of my personal life, of my family, but I have a limit. I think it’s nothing left to say from hospital or funeral”, Esca stated.

She said she has no idea where they got the virus from, arguing that she doesn’t think it was from that beach party, as nobody there had tested positive, too.

“I think what’s important to know is that we can get infected anytime, anywhere. We were among those who have protected ourselves as much as we could, we paid attention to a lot of things, but, I repeat, we are all human beings and we can all make mistakes at some point that can cost our health”, Esca said, sending a message to people “not to leave their guard down“.
