Firemen warn over major irregularities at Bucharest tube stations
The Inspectorate for the Emergency Situations conducted several checks across the tube stations in Bucharest, warning that they have found out major irregularities: most of them have no second emergency exit, while the business premises and shop windows spread across the subway stations are practically blocking the passengers’ evacuation in case of fire. The checks have been conducted during April 3-7. Firemen have fined the metro operator with RON 12,500.
The stations ‘boasting’ the most numerous underground shops and business premises are Universitate, Piaţa Romană, Piaţa Iancului, Gara de Nord 1, Piaţa Sudului, Tineretului.
Firemen also said that the technical devices against fires are not fully operational in some of these tube stations and the detection and alarm installations are not working within normal parameters.
