First flu epidemic week in Romania, seven died. 12yo boy from Bucharest, the last victim
Health authorities have reported the first flu epidemic week of this season in Romania. This doesn’t mean though there is a flu outbreak. Seven death have been confirmed in the past week, with ten overall since the start of the flu season.
The last victim is a 12-year-old boy from Bucharest. The boy was not vaccinated and reportedly had no other known diseases.
The National Center for Infectious Disease Control with the National Institute of Public Health has announced that the cases that tested positive for flu had been over 50% during January 20-26.
3,645 cases were reported countrywide, more by 7.4% as against the same week last year.
1,366 flu cases were reported in Bucharest.
Ten people died of flu since the start of the flu season, with 7 the past week. However, the death toll is lower than last year in the same period when 69 had died of flu.
- 64 AH3 flu cases;
- 63 AH1 flu cases;
- 84 A flu cases;
- 87 B virus flu cases.
According to the Health Ministry, 1,475,494 people in the risk groups had been vaccinated against flu this year by January 26.
