Flu is making more and more victims, with the western country topping the ranking. Two people have died in the past 24 hours, a 81-year-old woman from Arad and a 69-year-old man from Timis. A third death has been reported in Bucharest at noon on Friday, the death toll climbing thus to 14 countrywide.

A 71-year-old man from Bucharest is the last victim. He has been confirmed with A type flu virus, (H1)pdm09 sub-type. He had pre-existing medical record and was not vaccinated against influenza.

The 69yo man from Timis who is among the latest victims also had pre-existing medical problems and was not vaccinated.

As for the old woman from Arad had neither made the anti-flu vaccine and did not go to the doctor after the first symptoms, choosing to treat herself at home.

12 flu cases had been confirmed in Arad by Friday, January 18, with the number of viruses and pneumonia above the average as against last year.

Although last week, she ruled out we face a flu outbreak, Health minister, Sorina Pintea, has admitted on Friday that we are on the verge of an epidemic, explaining that the flu cases have overcome the estimated number last week.

If we have endemic weeks for three weeks in a row, then we can talk about an epidemic“, she said
