Former president of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) Mircea Sandu is charged in a new criminal file with bribe taking and money laundering. Mircea Sandu’s lawyer declared at the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) offices that “no preventive measure has been set. Mr. Mircea Sandu will prove that these allegations are unfounded.”

Neither the former head of the FRF nor the lawyer wanted to say what the file is about.

“It’s a new file, he has been charged with bribe taking and money laundering. At this point he is suspect,” said Mircea Sandu’s lawyer, who did not want to give details about the file, saying the announcement would be made by the DNA.

Former FRF president, Mircea Sandu, arrived Tuesday morning to the DNA offices.

According to DNA sources, Mircea Sandu reportedly came to make statements following a complaint filed by Adrian Mititelu (former owner of Universitatea Craiova football club). There are nine complaints on his name. There are complaints that concern several teams and how they promoted to League 1 and others did not.

The Bucharest Court of Appeal decided last Thursday to acquit the former president of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) Mircea Sandu and the former president of the Professional Football League (LPF) Dumitru Dragomir in the file of the decision to unaffiliate Universitatea Craiova football club.

The two were acquitted for offenses of abuse of service, use of the influence or authority of the person in charge of management and for evading seizure.
