Former Mayor of Piatra Neamt Gheorghe Stefan, aka Pinalti, was sentenced on Friday to 3 years and 3 months imprisonment in a file in which he is charged with money laundering and financial operations incompatible with the office. The ruling is final.

The court has also decided to confiscate RON 3 million in the file called Strongmontaj, adevarul.ro informs.

In March 2017, the first court acquitted him of the money-laundering charge, but found him guilty of using his influence and carrying out financial operations as trading acts incompatible with the office, for the purpose of obtaining money, goods or undue benefits.

Gheorghe Stefan was also convicted in the Microsoft file to 3 years and 6 months in jail; in the ‘Money for the party’ file to 3 years in prison, the sentence being merged with the one in the Microsoft file.

The former mayor executed 297 of the 1,278 prison days, being released on parole in September 2017.
