Further bad weather expected in Romania following the Black Sea cyclone
A week with extreme weather events, including tornado-like phenomena, caught in Dobruja, ends on an even more severe note. During the night, a reportedly strong cyclone from the Black Sea hit Romania, which has already wreaked havoc in Bulgaria, in Varna.
In Romania, the cyclone will linger until at least Friday night, and the National Meteorological Administration is ready to issue red codes.
As of Thursday evening, at 21:00, six counties in the southeast of the country were already under a code yellow warning for significant rainfall. In Dobruja, the east of Muntenia and the south-east of Moldavia there will be showers that will also have torrential character and in some places electric discharges. The quantities of water, in short time intervals or by accumulation, will exceed 20-30 l / sqm and on restricted areas, 40-50 l / sqm.
However, the rainfall area will be expanding during Friday, when an update of the weather information is expected. Even Bucharest is expected to come under the influence of the cyclone.
“The cyclone sounds a little dangerous, the complete terminology is extra-tropical cyclone. We have two types of cyclone: the cyclone as it was, for example, Katrina, is a tropical cyclone – it has the classic structure, spiral, storm eye and can cause great damage from wind and precipitation; the extra-tropical cyclone is what we usually have at our latitude – they are the structures that have a cold front and a warm front, so they are the structures that can happen at any time throughout the year and can produce precipitation, intense wind gusts, which are normal phenomena. What is particularly interesting about this cyclone is that it somehow prompts the development of these storms, somehow provides energy for these storms. Romania already has a fairly humid air mass in the region and then this cyclone can help form new storms “, Bogdan Antonescu, specialist in extreme weather phenomena, told Digi24.
Thus, the cyclone that entered Romania will bring precipitation, first of all, possibly wind, especially in Dobruja, and probably on Saturday it will also feel its influence, but after Friday night to Saturday the phenomena will lose their intensity , said the expert.
