Three NGOs have filed requests to stage protest rallies in Sibiu on May 9, on the day of the EU informal summit. The Sibiu City Hall has given the green light for the meetings, which will take place in Unirii Square in the city or on Victoriei Boulevard.
Greenpeace Romania will protest in Unirii Square in Sibiu on May 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on „the situation of the environment in Romania and in Europe”, as well as on the climate change.
Action 2012 Unionist Platform will also stage a protest „in order to promote the goal of Romania’s reunification with Republic of Moldova” on May 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., on 1-3 Victoriei Boulevard, in front of the old building of the city hall.
The third rally is staged by the „Evolution in the institution” Association on May 9, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Unirii Square, in front of the city’s cultural center. They want to warn the participants to the summit „over the repeated violations of the right for peaceful and free gatherings,” a right which „has been repeatedly broken by the Romanian Gendarmerie and Police that are politically subordinated”.
