Illnesses such as paranoia or haemorrhoids were among the reasons given in support of the exceptional cases which were solved with priority by the National Authority for Property Restitution (ANRP), according to a report released by the Prime Minister’s Control Body.
Data provided by ANPR during the control show that during 2008-2011 some 1,407 files were solved by the numerical order of registration and 2,269 were solved with priority as exceptional cases, of which 131 were solved in favour of rights assignees, hotnews.ro reports.
“In fact, the members of the Central Commission for Establishing Compensation have turned exception into rule,” the report reads.
Among the grounds claimed to support the exceptional cases there were illnesses such as paranoia, sciatica, osteoporosis, recurrent depressive disorder, panic attacks, irritable bowel syndrome, haemorrhoids or psoriasis.
An applicant has not submitted any documentary evidence, but claimed he was 82 and needs three costly surgeries, and another one said he is 93 years old and lives in the United States on welfare. The Prime Minister’s Control Body has identified a person who claimed to be an exceptional case because it is persecuted on ethnic grounds.
The ANPR information provided to the PM’s Control Body reveal that in the rankings of priority compensations for exceptional cases there is a person who received more than RON 108 million (approx. EUR 24 million).
