Romanian medical team reaches Italy

A team of Romanian doctors and nurses has left for Italy in Milan region on Tuesday, to provide aid in treating the people infected with coronavirus.

The aircraft with ten doctors and five nurses has landed in Italy around lunch.

“The C-27J Spartan aircraft of the Romanian Air Forces has operated a flight on the route Bucharest-Timisoara-Milan to transport a team of Romanian doctors and nurses”, informed the Romanian Ministry of Defence.

“I appreciate the courage and solidarity of the Romanian doctors and nurses who are joining their Italian colleagues in an extremely difficult moment. I trust their professionalism and I wish them good luck in this mission”, said Romanian PM Ludovic Orban, who welcomed the medical team on the Bucharest airport.

The Romanian medical team, selected based on volunteering, will work in Milan for 14 days, under the aegis of the European Union Civil Protection mechanism, to support the Italian medical system in the efforts to counter the COVID-19 epidemic.
