Meteorologists have issued an Orange Code heatwave warning valid in five counties in western Romania and a Yellow Code alert valid in most parts of the country.
According to National Meteorology Administration, the counties of Satu Mare, Bihor, Arad, Timiș and Caraș-Severin are under the Code orange warning. In these areas the weather will be hot and the thermal discomfort accentuated. The maximum temperatures will range from 36C-39C, and at night the thermal values will not fall below 22-20 degrees. The warning is in force on Wednesday.
At the same time, the counties of Maramureș, Sălaj, Bistrița-Năsăud, Mureș, Cluj, Alba, Sibiu, Hunedoara, Gorj, Mehedinți, Vâlcea, Dolj, Olt, Argeș, Teleorman, Dâmbovița, Giurgiu, Ilfov, Prahova, Călărași, Ialomița , Tulcea, Brăila, Buzău, Galați, Vrancea, Vaslui, Bacău and Iași are under a code yellow alert.
In these areas, the heat wave will persist, it will be hot, and the thermal discomfort will be high. The temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units in most parts of the country. Starting on Thursday afternoon, atmospheric instability will intensify in the western half of the country.
The Yellow Code warning is in effect Wednesday and Thursday.
