School leavers have queued to file their applications at the Bucharest Academy for Economic Studies, as Thursday was the first enrolment day.
ASE is one of the most sought-after universities in Romania, offering almost 6,000 seats, with 2,719 funded by the state budget. Thousands of candidates have queued since Thursday morning to file their applications.
According to the rector of the Academy of Economic Studies, the most sought-after faculties are the Cybernetics, the Finances and the Accountancy.
The entrance is based only on the graduate’s file, with 60 pc the baccalaureate grade and 40 pc of the high school general grade counting.
ASE was founded in 1913 as the Academy of Higher-level Commercial and Industrial Studies by the Royal Decree of king Carol I of Romania, and it has become one of the largest economic higher education institutes in both Romania and South-Eastern Europe.
The Bucharest University of Economic Studies has 22,684 students (undergraduate and graduate levels) in eleven faculties.
The university has positioned itself as a research institution, hosting 13 centers of research acknowledged and endorsed by the National Council of Scientific Research in Higher Education.
