How Many Romanians Face Deportation from the U.S.?

More than 4,400 Romanians in the United States are at risk of being deported at any moment, according to Donald Trump’s new immigration policy. They are among the nearly 1.5 million illegal immigrants that Trump wants to get rid of as quickly as possible, as he promised during the election campaign.

The figures date back to November 2024 and appear on the website of the US Immigration Service. Less than 10 days after Donald Trump’s inauguration, over 3,500 illegal immigrants from various countries, mostly from Latin America, have already been expelled, and images of them in handcuffs have gone around the world.

An updated map of deportations planned by the United States, published by the US Immigration Department, shows that 1,370 Romanians are on the list. They have final deportation orders initialed and are waiting to be sent back to the country. They have already exhausted all their legal options to appeal the decision and are now waiting to be put on the plane to Romania.

On another map, of detentions, another 3,640 Romanian citizens are listed. These are people who have repeatedly violated American laws, have either returned to America after deportation, or are even fugitives, wanted for crimes committed abroad. These are people who have been convicted or are in the process of being convicted, but who have violated American immigration laws or have exceeded the period of stay provided for by the visa they had. Of these, 1910 are already in custody.
