Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea estimated that the Easter lights in the Capital would roughly cost EUR 176,300. She argued that several millions of euros have been saved in the past eight months from various contracts signed by private companies with the Bucharest City Hall.

The Easter lights, including here the bulbs, around 1,300 of them, and the energy and manpower EUR 175,000. Well, we have saved EUR 1 M from the National Arena and some EUR 5 M from the law firms that used to get rich on the Bucharest budget’s expense and many other millions of euros that we have saved through the City Hall’s contracts (…) Considering those savings, I believe we can allot a small sum so that Bucharest could be beautifully adorned on Easter,” mayor Gabriela Firea said on Monday, adding that a company managing the city’s street lighting has bid so far to also take care of the Easter lights.

The lights will be placed downtown, at the Universitate, Romana, Unirii and Historical Center areas, including in the Patriarchy area.

Five days ago Firea announced that the famous Calea Victoriei/ Victory Avenue, the Capital’s landmark since early 20th century, would become promenade area during Easter holidays due in mid-April, with light garlands to be installed on the avenue.
