Huge conflagration at furniture warehouse in Balotesti, fire-fighters still on the site
A massive conflagration broke out Tuesday night in Balotesti, 25 km from Bucharest, at a mobile factory and a warehouse next to it.
Fire-fighters intervened all night at the fire in Balotesti, both from height, with a car and hose line, but in several areas different materials are still on fire, Daniel Vasile, spokesperson of ISU Bucharest-Ilfov said on Wednesday. The fire was not extinguished until Wednesday morning, more than 12 hours after the outbreak, with the fire-fighters still intervening with eight fire-trucks.
The ISU Bucharest-Ilfov spokesperson said that in some places the collapsed elements that make up the structure of the building are burning, which makes it hard for the water to get to the bottom. Other possibilities for approaching these areas do not exist, Daniel Vasile said.
The fire broke out Tuesday night and affected a furniture store, then another one with plastics, wood and pressure vessels.
Raed Arafat, State Secretary with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said there are no casualties or injured.
The chief inspector of Ilfov County Environment Guard, Emil Grigore, said on Tuesday that there are no dangerous substances released from the strong fire from Balotesti, saying that pollution is not a major problem for the health of the population.
