Hungary Today: Hungarophile French writer refused entry to Romania
The Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs has banned French linguist and writer, Raoul Weiss, from entering the country for national security reasons. Weiss is also an enthusiastic member of the Transylvanian-Hungarian folk dance-movement and has publically supported cases related to ethnic-Hungarians in Romania, hungarytoday.hu reports.
In an interview with MTI, Weiss revealed that he landed in Cluj-Napoca (Kolozsvár), but was denied entry to Romania.
Documents presented to him at the airport stated he “poses a serious threat to the Romanian legal, social, economic and political stability which is the basis for the existence and development of a sovereign, unified, independent and indivisible Romanian nation-state.”
Weiss finds it ridiculous that the Romanians consider his artistic activity a threat to their national security and is considering filing a court case against the decision. “How could I have threatened Romania’s security? With my Poems? With linguistic analysis?”
He insists his art is not the cause of his denied entrance into Romania. According to Weiss, the real reason could be that his writings about the Romanian civil demonstrations enjoyed world-wide readership. The Romanian authorities considered these demonstrations as foreign plots and acts against their country’s democracy.
Raoul Weiss explained that he only has French citizenship, previously ran a café in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca) and is currently a Ph.D. student at Babes-Bolyai University. He is planning to defend his doctoral dissertation in comparative linguistics next year. Weiss has published novels in Romanian, authored poems in Hungarian and written several French opinion pieces and philosophical essays, the same source informs.
The journalist says the real reason is related to his reports on the #Rezist protests, read by people around the world, in which he claimed that in fact Germany and foreign interests, represented by certain NGOs financed by billionaire George Soros, are behind the street movements, ziare.com reports.
Raoul Weiss claims he has only French citizenship. He owned a coffee shop in Cluj Napoca and now is PhD student with the Babes-Bolyai University, wanting to have his doctoral thesis next year.
The journalist has published several novels in Romanian language, poetry in Hungarian and opinions in French, as well as philosophical essays.
