Former Romanian tennis player Ilie Nastase revealed on Wednesday that he is a friend of US President-elect, Donald Trump, and that they played tennis together some 20 years ago.

Ilie Nastase, 70, claims that he befriended with Donald Trump when they played tennis. Specifically, “in New York, while I was living there, he used to come to our matches at the US Open, he loves tennis. He wasn’t missing a match for some time. Then I made friends with him, he invited me to his home in Florida, where he had several tennis courts. I’ve played with him 20 years ago. He wanted to show me he played tennis well. He did, he knows the game, he has a clean backhand shot,” Nastase said in an interview for ProSport.

Ilie Nastase says he will continue to address Donald Trump on his first name. “I’m not going to call him Mr. President! He used to call me Nasty, Nasty, Nasty … Donald, Donald!” Nastase said.

The former tennis player believes Donald Trump as president will be beneficial for the United States and also for Romania. On the other hand, Nastase wants the US ambassador to Bucharest to be replaced.

“I believe he will do good things for the Americans. It is a good thing for us too. I hope he would replace, as soon as possible, the US ambassador to Bucharest (Hans Klemm – our note). This would be the best move. I keep hearing him saying we are a country of corrupt people, making lots of mistakes. He is human too, but I do hope he will be replaced as soon as possible, he sees the mote in our eyes, but does not see the beam in his eyes. He’d better look at Microsoft,” Nastase said for ProSport.
