Over half of Romanians expect Nicușor Dan to be a president who is more involved in public life, according to an Informat.ro – Inscop Research opinion poll conducted between May 26-30.

Also, more than 60% of Romanians believe that Nicușor Dan will be a mediator, who will seek consensus and will not be a conflictual president. Thus, the majority of Romanians (56.4%) believe that President Nicușor Dan will be more involved in public life, while 36.7% expect the former mayor of the Capital to be a president who is more absent from public life. 6.8% do not know or do not answer this question.

“After a president who excelled in the conflict dimension and a president who excelled in absence, especially in his second term, Romanians want an involved and consensual president,” said Remus Ștefureac, director of INSCOP Research.

“The majority of Romanians (56.4%) believe that President Nicușor Dan will be more involved in public life, with expectations in this regard being stronger among PSD voters (77%), PNL (91%) and USR (92%). In contrast, only 16% of AUR voters believe that Nicușor Dan will be an involved president, compared to 77% of this party’s voters who believe that he will be an absent president,” added Ștefureac.

According to the survey, those who believe that Nicușor Dan will be a president more involved in public life include, in particular, PNL, USR and PSD voters, people over 60, those with higher education and urban residents.

The following are of the opposite opinion in particular: AUR voters, people under 45, those with primary education, rural residents and Tik-Tok users. Also, 61.7% of the people surveyed believe that Nicușor Dan will be a president who will rather mediate, will seek consensus.

The remaining 28.3% believe that the new president will rather seek conflict. The share of non-responses is 9.9%.

“This opinion is shared by 85% of PSD voters, 94% of PNL voters and 97% of USR voters, in contrast to AUR voters who are of this opinion in a proportion of only 20%. The perception regarding the profile of President Nicușor Dan, newly elected to office, demonstrates the deep polarization of Romanian society on several criteria (especially depending on political sympathies and level of education)”, said Ștefureac.
