Investigation at ‘Filantropia’ Hospital in Craiova, in the case of erroneous transfusions: The head of the Haematology Department – dismissed

The Discipline Committee of the ‘Filantropia’ Municipal Hospital in Craiova has decided to dismiss the head of the Haematology Department, in the case of the 12 patients who were transfused on February 24 and six of whom had adverse reactions and two of whom have died.

According to the medical director, Dr. Lorena Dijmărescu, the Disciplinary Board concluded that the head of department had not fulfilled his obligations regarding the organization of the department and the chief assistant has also been suspended from office for two months.

“There were procedural flaws regarding the transport of biological materials and on the supervision of transfusions, without any medical malpractice, Professor Găman (Dr. Dragoş Găman, head of the Haematology Department) failed to perform his duties, consequently he was dismissed from office as of May 1,” the medical director of Filantropia Hospital said.

The Public Health Department (DSP) Dolj has fined the Municipal Hospital Filantropia in Craiova by RON 25,000 for non-compliance with the procedures for blood transfusion and by RON 1,000 the doctor, the assistant with the transfusion unit and three other assistants with the haematology department.
