King Mihai I has asked, under the veterans’ law, for tax exemption for the royal domain at Săvârşin, Arad County (western Romania), with an area of 19.5 hectares, while the locals support his request because ‘he must, like any citizen, benefit of these things.’

The request for tax exemption was registered to Săvârşin Village Hall. Here, besides the castle, Mihai I owns several buildings and other properties, such as agricultural land and forests.

The law allows war veterans to receive exemptions from taxes and local taxes.

The amount of annual taxes to the local budget would be of about RON 35,000 (approx. EUR 7,800).

Săvârşin Mayor Ioan Vodicean says it is the first time the royal family has requested any tax exemption and so far it has paid local taxes without delay.

The Press Office of His Majesty King Mihai I has informed that the tax exemption was not requested for personal reasons, but according to the law.
