The wealth of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Governor Mugur Isarescu is checked by the National Integrity Agency (ANI).
“It’s just a verification which started from a notice that was received,” said the BNR spokesman Dan Suciu for Digi 24.
ANI was notified on February 18 by Parakletos Association, an NGO that advocates for the rights of consumers, who requested to determine whether there is “any incompatibility or conflict of interests between Mr. Isarescu as borrower from Volksbank and that of governor of the National Bank of Romania,” Economica.net reported.
“It’s not the first time this happens and I think we’ll have a solution very quickly and a clear situation. May I remind you that in case of this credit, it was operational and then it was closed; I know that Governor’s statements were confusing at some point, but I hope they’ve been satisfactory cleared in the meantime,” said Suciu who added that the loan is included in Isarescu’s wealth statements.
