Bogdan Peșchir was arrested for 30 days

The main TikTok financier of Călin Georgescu’s campaign for last year’s elections was brought before prosecutors again on Friday at the Bucharest Prosecutor’s Office. Bogdan Peșchir was questioned for about four hours, and prosecutors requested his preventive arrest. Peșchir’s lawyer noted that “his status has changed from witness to suspect.”

Bogdan Peșchir received a 30-day arrest warrant. The decision was made by the District 5 court, where a judge accepted the prosecutors’ request.

Prosecutors have officially announced that Bogdan Peșchir is accused of 265 counts of voter corruption. According to them, Peșchir offered $879,000 in “gifts” via the TikTok app during live broadcasts and $80,000 on Revolut to induce 265 people to vote for Călin Georgescu in the 2024 elections.

Bogdan Peșchir’s lawyer stated, upon leaving the Prosecutor General’s Office, that “his status has changed from witness to suspect”. He also stated that “he contested the detention measure”. He mentioned that Bogdan Peșchir’s money comes “from trading” because he has “been operating on the cryptocurrency market for approximately 7 years”.

The main financier of Călin Georgescu’s campaign left the Prosecutor General’s Office with his face covered with a balaclava and sunglasses and his head with a cap and a hood.

According to Digi24 sources, the preventive arrest proposal is still being worked on, and when it is ready it will be sent to the District 5 court. Bogdan Peșchir was taken into custody and will be transferred to the Court when a term is set.

Bogdan Peșchir is before the prosecutors from the Prosecutor General’s Office, on Friday, for new hearings. On Thursday, 17 searches were carried out, both in Bucharest and in other counties in the country, at influencers who allegedly helped promote Călin Georgescu’s campaign for last year’s presidential elections.

Prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office are analyzing all the information, listening to Bogdan Peșchir’s statements and will decide whether to make him a report with a proposal for preventive arrest, so that the Court can then decide whether or not he will be preventively arrested or whether he will be exempted from any other measure.

Among those targeted by the searches were influencers such as Makaveli or people from underworld groups, for example from the Pian clan. Investigators are trying to find new data that could lead to the person who would actually be behind the financing of this campaign.

Bogdan Peșchir was detained on Thursday for 24 hours, accused of voter corruption. Bogdan Peșchir’s lawyers claim that there is not enough evidence for prosecutors to take Bogdan Peșchir into preventive arrest.

“I came here for two and a half months, I was at the disposal of the investigative bodies and they didn’t find half a piece of evidence, not one piece of evidence, half a piece of evidence that could impute anything to us. Then the problem is this: this media circus is being created on the idea that no one can verify what is in the file,” says one of Peșchir’s lawyers.

“He didn’t give anyone money to support anyone. Everyone in this country does what they want with their money. He showed where he made the money, from trading. The moment the investigative bodies saw where the money came from, they were no longer interested,” he adds.
