Former Liberal deputy Ioan Oltean has been taken out from criminal prosecution in an influence peddling file investigated by the Oradea National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) since 2010. The prosecutors’ charges are considered  unfounded.

Former leader of Bistrita Nasaud PNL branch, Oltean said on Thursday that this is the second time anti-corruption prosecutors from Oradea are closing this file down, after it had been first closed in 2012 for lack of evidence.

The same file has been re-opened in 2015 when the DNA Oradea’s heads have been changed. Following the first accusations I resigned from all political positions, my political career has been harmed by a file where the evidence had been set up,” Oltean said.

He was accused in 2010 that he would have received RON 40,000 as bribe to help a man to become head of the Regional Water Direction.

„Initially I was a witness in this case, but I became defendant based on some unfounded evidence,” he added.

Asked if he will sue the Oradea DNA prosecutors, Ioan Oltean said he is out of politics and that he has something else to do.

Ex-Deputy Ioan Oltean has been indicted in July 2016 by corruption prosecutors along with Crinuţa Dumitrean, former president of the National Authority for Property Restitution (ANRP), in a file on the overvalued compensation for a land in Pitesti, with damages amounting to nearly RON 100 million (approx. EUR 22.2 million).

Ioan Oltean was charged with complicity to abuse of office with serious consequences if the official has obtained for himself or for another an undue advantage, Crinuţa Dumitrean was In the same file eight defendants have been indicted, most of them at the material time members of the ANRP Central Committee for setting Compensations.

Prosecutors argue their request by saying that Ioan Olteanu was “like a boss” to the former ANRP head Crinuța Dumitrean, and also that it was notorious that businessman Mihai Rotaru used to benefit of generous and prompt compensations due to this relationship, while other thousands of retrocession files were pending.

Liberal deputy, Ioan Olteanu, was taken by the anti-corruption prosecutors from the airport in December 2015  and detained. He was charged with influence peddling and complicity to abuse of office. Deputy Ioan Oltean allegedly received as bribe EUR 600,000 inside a parish, the DNA prosecutors said.
