Dan Voiculescu withdraws application for annulment the sentence in ICA file
Businessman Dan Voiculescu requested the magistrates to annul the sentence in ICA file, but he has changed his mind. The owner of Intact group has withdrawn the request submitted to the Court of Appeal by a notary statement.
The Court of Appeal sentenced him in August 2014 to 10 years in prison and was to discuss the application submitted by Dan Voiculescu on February 19. Neither the former senator nor his lawyer were present in the courtroom Friday morning, Digi24.ro informs. Moreover, it is hard to believe that the application could have been accepted by judges as it should have been filed 10 days after the sentence. Dan Voiculescu has far exceeded this term.
Dan Voiculescu’s request had invoked information released also by the TV station owned by the Voiculescu family (Antena 3 – our note) that the judge that sentenced the former senator was not impartial. Voiculescu said that the judge allegedly had participated in several seminars organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, and at that time the ministry was part in the ICA file.
In August 2015 the Bucharest Court of Appeal sentenced businessman Dan Voiculescu to 10 years in prison in connection to the case involving the privatisation of the Food Research Institute (ICA)
