Former DIICOT chief prosecutor expelled from magistracy, new arrests in Bica’ s file
Former top officials of the National Authority for Property Retrocession detained.
The Superior Council of Magistracy decided Monday on expelling the former DIICOT chief Alina Bica from magistracy after she has been arrested in the file related to the overrated EUR 61 M land.
“It is a provisory suspension, till the court is giving a final ruling in this case. Alina Bica got suspended from the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT),” CSM vice-president, Gheorghe Muscalu explained.
Moreover, another former member of the Central committee for compensations within the National Authority for Property Retrocession (ANRP), Oana Vasilescu was detained for 24 hours in the same file, being charged with abuse of office. Investigators said Vasilescu was prosecuted since last Thursday but could not be informed on the charges, as she was not in the country.
Oana Vasilescu was heard on Monday by the anti-corruption prosecutors, as well as ANRP ex-chief, Crinuta Dumitrean, who was brought by peremptory writ at DNA. Later on monday night, Dumitrean was detained, too.
Prosecutors claim Dumitrean and Bica used to act together and support each other in the Central committee for compensations. Their activity and of the other seven members of the committee was “abusive and wrong”, DNA prosecutors also point out.
Elena Udrea – Gheorghe Stelian business relation
As for businessman Gheorghe Stelian, the beneficiary of the huge compensation of EUR 61 M for the overrated land in Bucharest, he is subject to legal restrictions pending trial in this case. Investigators claim he would have shared EUR 61 million with other three businessmen. Stelian is well known for doing real estate businesses. Elena Udrea would have bought from him a land in Floreasca district, Bucharest in 2006, in order to build a residential compound. Udrea also bought another land for real estate purposes on the shore of Grivita lake, after she borrowed EUR 3.3 M from the bank. Yet, the project failed and Udrea sold the land and its credit to Alexandru Faur, Stelian’s business partner.
