DIICOT: Laura Vicol Paid for Surgeries & Luxury Parties with Nordis Funds

New revelations from the Nordis case shed light on the extravagant spending made by Laura Vicol with Nordis company money, according to data from the DIICOT report, Digi24 reports.

The former head of the Legal Committee of the Chamber of Deputies would have spent no less than eight million lei in recent years to satisfy her pleasures, part of these amounts going to cosmetic surgeries. She also organized parties in luxury clubs on the coast or in Poiana Brașov, the costs being borne from Nordis accounts.

DIICOT prosecutors established in the report with which they requested the arrest of the Laura Vicol – Vladimir Ciorbă couple in court that the former head of the Legal Committee of the Chamber of Deputies made no less than 8,000 banking operations between April 2019 and this year, spending eight million lei (1.6 million euros) of Nordis money.

A good part of this money, 323,000 lei, went on aesthetic procedures, cars and media advertising. More precisely, according to the data in the file, consulted by Digi24, Laura Vicol would have paid 14,000 euros for four aesthetic operations.

Other Nordis company money went to parties in fancy clubs and was justified as protocol expenses, according to the report.

Laura Vicol spent over 860,000 lei (170,000 euros) in clubs on the seaside and in Poiana Brașov, which attracted comments even from Nordis managers, shocked by the scale of these expenses.

DIICOT prosecutors state in the report that not all of these expenses have a criminal component, but their exposure is relevant because, on the other hand, the defendants in the case “cynically and contemptuously invoked, towards clients, financial difficulties”.

The DIICOT prosecutors’ report includes the amount of 864,000 lei, or 170,000 euros, money spent in a luxury club that has a restaurant both on the coast and in Poiana Brașov. Prosecutors say it is not clear how this amount spent and declared as protocol expenses has any connection with the company’s business.

In one of these places, more precisely in Poiana Brașov, the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, was caught in the past, alongside Laura Vicol. In the images, he appears right behind Laura Vicol, a former PSD deputy. At one point, she even whispers something in his ear. These images are from December 2023 and appeared in the public space in January 2024.

Sorin Grindeanu confirmed his presence in Poiana Brașov for Digi24. He said that he was with the former PSD deputy at a party on December 1, 2023, but added that he paid the bill himself. 

Sorin Grindeanu’s name does not appear in the prosecutors’ report, nor are these expenses made in the premises detailed. Prosecutors say that they presented these expenses in the report, although they have no criminal relevance, because Nordis shareholders invoked financial difficulties towards clients, while they spent exorbitant amounts.

Laura Vicol did not comment in any way on how she spent this money, but she denied these accusations. So did Vladimir Ciorbă, as well as the other defendants in this case.
