DNA chief Kovesi: If abuse of office is not considered criminal offence, hundreds of files will be closed
The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) Chief Prosecutor Laura Kovesi said on Tuesday that if the Constitutional Court declares unconstitutional the article of the Criminal Code which defines the abuse of office as criminal offence, then some 800 DNA files regarding public procurement frauds of millions of euro will be closed.
Laura Kovesi showed that if the crime is cancelled then the complicity to such crimes shall have the same fate, ziare.com informs.
“At the moment we have to on the desk 865 files of fraud in public procurement and generally these files are offenses of abuse of office. We investigate the facts that remain in charge of the Constitutional Court. Citizens should be concerned when we have over 800 public procurement files with damages of millions of euros and we might not able to investigate them,” Laura Codruta Kovesi said.
