DNA seen as the most involved institution in fight against corruption, survey says

Most Romanians (almost two thirds) believe that the state institutions actions have recently improved (64.1%), while 26.4% say that actions have not improved and 9.5% did not know or did not answer this question, an INSCOP survey ordered by the newspaper ‘Adevarul’ reveals.

48.1% of the respondents say that when a person is accused of corruption, they are inclined to regard that person as innocent until the final decision of the court. In contrast, 43.1% believe that when a person is accused of corruption by DNA, that person is guilty of the charges brought against him.

DNA leads among the institutions perceived as the most involved in fighting corruption. 80.1% of Romanians believe that DNA is involved to a large and very large extent in fighting corruption. The DNA is followed by the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), 69.1% of respondents perceive it as involved and very involved in fighting corruption.

The two institutions are followed by the Presidency, 61.8% of respondents perceive it as involved and very involved in fighting corruption. Next is the Prosecutor General Office (59.4%), the National Integrity Agency – ANI (57.4%), Police (56.8%), the media (55.1%), the High Court of Cassation and Justice (53.5%), European Commission (43.3%), civil society organizations (32.3%). Government and Parliament rank on the last two places in the standings, being largely perceived as involved in fighting corruption by 26.9% and 23% of respondents respectively.

The survey was conducted during February 5-10, 2015. The sample was of 1,065 people and is representative of the Romanian population 18 years and over 18 years. Error margin of data is ± 3% at the confidence level is of 95%.
