Doctors prosecuted for hospitalizing Nicusor Constantinescu during trial

The head of the Cardiology ward of the Constants County Hospital and an attending physician are criminally prosecuted for favoring the perpetrator after ordering the hospitalization of Nicusor Constantinescu, the former leader of Constanta County Council so that he could serve the prison sentence in better conditions, says the National Anti-corruption Directorate.
The head of the Cardiology ward of the Constanta County Hospital, Raluca Irinel Parepa and doctor Marius Ţoringhibel are prosecuted under judicial control for 60 days for favoring the perpetrator.
“On June 8, defendants Parepa Raluca-Irinel and Ţoringhibel Marius ordered the hospitalization of Nicusor Constantinescu (currently under preventive arrest) so that he could serve the preventive arrest in milder circumstances,” reads the DNA press release.
Investigators say that the former leader of Constant County Council, Nicusor Constantinescu was admitted to the Constanta County Hospital although he had to be admitted to one of the medical units of the National Penitentiary Administration. Prosecutors claim that the hospitalization helped Constantinescu escape preventive arrest.
The trial of Nicusor Constantinescu was adjourned on Wednesday at the request of the doctors who asked to give Constantinescu emergency medical aid at the hospital after the defendant claimed medical problems.
Therefore, the Court of Appeal in Constanta failed to debate the appeal filed by the prosecutors in this case. Nicusor Constantinescu also appealed the sentence of 3 years and 6 months in the file of underfinancing the Regional Military Centre.
A new hearing was settled on June 22. Constantinescu has a new lawyer after he had fired the previous one on the ground that the court denied all requests filed in this case.
