Dutch Police Release Photos of Suspect in Drents Museum Heist
Dutch police have released several photos of one of the suspects in the Drents Museum robbery. According to Dutch authorities, the man was seen two days before the robbery at a DIY store in the city of Assen.
Dutch police also state that he was seen at the store last Thursday, at 1:14 p.m. The man was wearing a black Nike hoodie, a black Nike cap and dark pants. He was also wearing black-framed glasses.
Anyone who sees this man is asked to provide information to Dutch investigators.
On the night of Friday into Saturday, a door of the Drents Museum was blown up with explosives. Shortly afterwards, the thieves made off with four valuable Romanian art objects.
Investigators believe at least three suspects in this weekend’s Drents Museum robbery are from the province of North Holland, in the northwestern part of the Netherlands.
Detectives found two large hammers and a crowbar at the museum that they believe were used in the robbery that stole the Coțofenești Golden Helmet and three Dacian bracelets.
Dutch police also found a sledgehammer thrown into a canal behind the museum building on Monday, according to the Dutch regional publication noordernieuws.nl, which published several images.
“We want to find out where exactly the suspects were. For example, the car was seen in Groningen on January 23 and was not seen again in Assen until January 25. We would like to know where the suspects and the car were in the meantime. Therefore, we would like to receive camera images from the following places and times where the suspects or the cars used could be. We are also looking for witnesses who may have seen this Golf or other suspicious people or vehicles,” the Dutch police announced.
On Saturday, after the robbery, Dutch police released images of moments from the robbery at the Assen museum when several pieces from Romania’s Dacian treasure exhibited there were stolen, including the Golden Helmet from Coțofenești and Dacian bracelets from Sarmizegetusa Regia.
At least three people who participated in the robbery can be seen in the clip released. “The images show the suspects opening an outer gate, after which an explosion occurs. This is how the suspects entered the museum,” the police said in the message accompanying the clip on YouTube.
