Elena Udrea has said on Thursday, when leaving the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) that the prosecutors have ordered a new judicial control in her case and have accused her of money laundering in a file related to the financing of the electoral campaign for presidential elections in 2009, hotnews.ro informs.
The former Regional Development and Tourism Minister, former presidential adviser and currently MP Elena Udrea stated that it is about four charges of money laundering related to her as the person that had ‘unofficially’ dealt with the electoral campaign of former President Traian Basescu.
“Investigations are conducted on how some actions of electoral advertising were financed, that allegedly I had knowledge, as a person involved in the campaign,” Udrea said.
She added, after being questioned for about three hours, that the new file refers to “the financing of advertising for the 2009 election campaign.”
“I brought money for the campaign, the ones officially declared in the official gazette,” Udrea said.
Elena Udrea has counterattacked by saying that the summoning of other persons to hearings on Thursday along with her – Ioana Basescu, Dan Andronic – was made for “shifting the attention” from the “image disaster in which DNA stands” with “rejected files, prosecutors proved as being immoral or even illegal” in a period of “pre-election campaign”.
“Traian Basescu’s name had to be defiled” as “possible counter-candidate for the prime minister office,” given that there is a “fabulous campaign with fake accounts on Facebook in favour of Dacian Ciolos,” Udrea said.
With this new judicial episode “my life gets simplified,” continued Udrea.
Elena Udrea added that she is not “the stake in this file” and that it is an “image move” to diminish the chances of PMP in this fall’s elections.
In the same file was also placed under judicial control Gheorghe Nastasia, former Secretary of State with the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism during Elena Udrea’s mandate, lawyer Vasile Pleşa said on Thursday.
“I made some statements. Judicial control has been decided for Mr. Nastasia. Investigations are conducted related to offenses of bribery and it’s about the denunciation made by a person saying that in 2009, during the electoral campaign, allegedly had contributed money for the campaign. My statements had no connection with Ioana Basescu. It’s about the presidential campaign. It’s about a whistle-blower who had many contacts in the Tourism Ministry at that time,” said Vasile Plesa, Gheorghe Nastasia’s lawyer.
Gheorghe Nastasia, former Secretary General with the Tourism Ministry during Elena Udrea’s mandate was questioned by prosecutors on Thursday. He is prosecuted along with Elena Udrea in the ‘Bute Gala’ file.
Ioana Basescu, the elder daughter of former President Traian Basescu, was also heard Thursday morning by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors, allegedly in a corruption file.
Former journalist Dan Andronic, involved in several files under investigation by DNA, was also summoned for hearings, the media informs.
