Ex-Bucharest mayor Oprescu asks for relocation of his trial
Former Bucharest mayor Sorin Oprescu accused the Bucharest Tribunal of impartiality, while asking for his case being on trial in a different court. Oprescu is charged with bribe taking, money laundering, abuse of office and with setting up an organized criminal group.
“I want an impartial trial. Until now, the Tribunal’s actions haven’t been impartial. I don’t want anyone favoring me, but I want an impartial trial,” Oprescu said on Wednesday during a new hearing in the corruption trial.
He filed a displacement request to another court, which will be judged on June 28.
At the hearing of June 8, three of the defendants in this case have admitted guilt, except for the former mayor Sorin Oprescu.
In November last year, anti-corruption prosecutors prosecuted ex-Bucharest generla mayor for bribe taking, money laundering, abuse of office and setting up an organized criminal group.
