The former chief prosecutor of the National Anti-corruption Laura Codruţa Kovesi has been charged and prosecuted for unfair repression in the file of two anti-corruption prosecutors from DNA Ploiesti, Mircea Negulescu and Lucian Onea, following more than five hours of hearings in the Special section for investigating magistrates, sources close to the investigation told mass media. Onea and Negulescu are investigated under judiciary control in the same case.

Upon leaving the section, Kovesi told journalists she cannot give statements in the file on Nicolae Popa’s extradition for she has not studied the case. She added that nine or ten lawyers had entered the office where she was heard announcing her she is charged in another file, except for the extradition’s one. Kovesi said she had been summoned in another file, the extradition one, but charged in a new one. The former anti-corruption head said she had not been summoned in a legal way and that she had no access to any document in the new file. Kovesi has strongly denied any charge against her.

The-ex DNA chief prosecutor added she will prove she is innocent and reiterated that these teases of the special section for investigating magistrates are linked to her candidature for the helm of the European Prosecutor’s Office.

I feel there has been a despair lately to stop me from everything I do and you can all see how this despair is manifested today”, Kovesi pointed out, refusing though to comment the letter the Justice minister has sent to Financial Times.

As for the charges in the extradition file, where Kovesi is suspect of abuse of office, bribe taking and perjury, she also reiterated she had never asked Sebastian Ghita any money for the extradition procedures and that she had only met him within institutional events.

In the Onea-Negulescu file, the two prosecutors are accused that they had forced certain witnesses to make referrals and false charts with voters from Republic of Moldova, resulting that voters would have received money as “electoral bribe”.

Onea and Negulescu, next to other prosecutors within DNA Ploiesti, are also charged of setting up an organised criminal group.
